Physician Accreditation This activity is reviewed for up 12 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to the AMA PRA equivalent to the AMA PRA category 1 credit toward the AMA Physicians Recognition Award. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Conference Tuition Cancellations

Must be confirmed in writing and 10% of paid tuition processing fee will be assessed. No refunds will be made if cancellation is made after January 18,2011 however 50% of tuition fee may be applied to a future MCE conferences.
Program Objectives

Following this course, the participant should be able to recognize the commonly presenting infectious diseases; identify the clinical manifestations, the methods of diagnosing the presenting diseases; and apply the current recommendations of pharmacologic management, referral or follow-up and prevention. This activity is expected to result in increased confidence in making an appropriate diagnosis and providing effective treatment and referral or follow-up care with the overall goal of improving patient outcomes.

*CASE PRESENTATIONS I and II - These two lectures are designed to present common problems in Infectious Diseases in a case presentation format. Differential diagnosis, appropriate diagnostic work up and appropriate use (or non-use) of antimicrobial will be emphasized.

*SKIN AND SOFT TISSUE INFECTIONS - Common skin and soft tissue infections will be reviewed with particular emphasis on community acquired methicillin resistant S. aureus (CA-MRSA) infections and how the emergence of this pathogen influences choice of therapy. Differentiation between superficial and more serious deep tissue infections will be reviewed

*UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTIONS - A review of sinusitis, pharyngitis and bronchitis that will emphasize the impact of therapy on outcome and appropriate choice of antibiotic therapy

* LOWER RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS - A review of etiologic agents, diagnostic work up, criteria for admission and appropriate choice of antimicrobial therapy

*INFECTIONS IN DIABETICS - Pathophysiology, diagnosis, therapy and outcome of common as well as less common, but potentially life-threatening infections, in this patient population will be reviewed

* INFECTIOUS COMPLICATIONS OF ANIMAL AND HUMAN BITES - The epidemiology, risk factors for infection, bacteriology, prophylaxis and therapy of dog, cat and human bites will be reviewed. In addition, late complications—rabies and tetanus—will be discussed with emphasis on who needs prophylaxis for these life-threatening diseases

*THE RED EYE - The question of who can be safely treated by a primary care provider and who needs immediate, specialized ophthalmologic referral will be presented in an algorithmic form. Photographs of common causes of the red eye will be included.

*URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS - An update on UTI’s and pyelonephritis in both men and women will be reviewed. Newer concepts on diagnostic criteria of infection, the need to treat (or not treat) asymptomatic bacteriuria and the impact of increasing resistance on therapeutic choices will be discussed *“Influenza: Coming to a Patient Near You” - Objectives: To review endemic, epidemic and pandemic influenza (including emerging strains), their diagnoses and therapies.

* “Update on IDSA/ATS Guidelines on CAP Management in Adults” - Objectives: To discuss the recommendations outlined by the Infectious Diseases Society of America and American Thoracic Society’s guidelines on the management of community acquired pneumonia, with a particular focus on changes from prior versions of these guidelines.

* “Update on Kawasaki Disease” - Objectives: Participants will understand current hypotheses in disease pathogenesis, updates on diagnosis and treatment, and new interventions that may be on the horizon.

* UPDATE ON ADULT VACCINATIONS - Recommendations for newer vaccines such as acellular pertussis, varicella-zoster and human papillomavirus (HPV) will be reviewed

* NEW ANTIBIOTICS - Review of linezolid, daptomycin, tigecyckline, telithromycin, ertapenem and others will be provided

This course is organized by physicians for primary care and internal medicine healthcare professionals interested in expansion of their knowledge and skills in Infectious Diseases.

Camp Snowbird is the resort’s comprehensive, state-licensed daycare facility with an on-premises kitchen and nursery for infants 6 weeks and older. Camp Snowbird offers a seamless integration with the resort’s renowned Mountain School to smoothly incorporate lessons on the nearby Chickadee Run and throughout the mountain with customary daycare offerings such as games, movies, arts and crafts and naps.

This is a bedroom connecting to a studio, Approx. 865 square feet. Sleeps up to 6 people.

Loft (On request basis only)- 800 square feet. Upstairs open bedroom with 2 Queen Size beds and downstairs Living Room and Kitchen with full size pull out sofa. Sleeps 6.

Lodging Deposit - Two nights deposit must accompany your reservation. The balance of lodging payment is due 30 days before arrival. Incidentals are to be paid upon check out. The resort accepts all major credit cards.

Lodging Cancellation - Per our lodging agreement these are the cancellation terms and conditions:

Cancellation 60 days or more before arrival - you will receive full deposit

Cancellation 59-31 days before arrival - a one night deposit is forfeited

Cancellation 30 days or less before arrival no lodging refunds can be made. No-shows and early departures are considered a cancellation.

Airport Shuttle Service - CANYON TRANSPORTATION runs express round trip airport transfers from Salt Lake International Airport to Snowbird. Express hours from the airport are from 8 a.m. to Midnight for winter, departing at least every 20-30 minutes. Return trips leave Snowbird 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the hour, based on reservations. Return trips should be reconfirmed with Canyon the day prior to departure. Canyon Transportation is located in the baggage claim area adjacent to the carousels.
